Paddy and Liz Reynolds Doctor - NSW, Australia
A new life on the land is a dream come true for New Diamonds Paddy and Liz Reynolds.
"This business has allowed us to rebuild our old life, only now it's much better." Nineteen years ago, Paddy and Liz Reynolds were forced to leave the dream lifestyle they had created for themselves and their six children in the Natal Midlands, South Africa.
There, this young couple who both played polocrosse at state and national level, had a beautiful home on acreage, bred horses, and while Liz raised the children and competed in equestrian competitions, Paddy thrived in his role as a country GP.
Arriving with few possessions of their past life, Paddy was eager to recreate their lifestyle, however almost immediately his dream of being a country GP in Australia was shattered.
"My life in Family Practice in South Africa involved doing everything from delivering babies to setting fractures, removing inflamed appendices, administering anaesthetics, even doing house calls (if anyone can remember what they are)... I worked seven days a week and I loved every minute," he says.
"When I came to Australia I was told I couldn't practise any of my specialty skills and I felt as though my dreams had been completely crushed. I now know that there is a universal principle that says you have to give up the things that you want most. "I trained to be a doctor so that I could help people. The deal that was being offered to me in Australia didn't seem to fit that criteria." A year into their new life down under, Paddy and Liz discovered AMWAY® and within months Liz was able to return home to be a full time mum. They lived in suburbia and there were no horses...but Liz was home!
They continued to share the opportunity with others as well as run a general practice in Hobart, Tasmania. In 1997, as Emerald IBOs, Paddy gave up being a GP for good. The family returned to the Southern Highlands in NSW and so began their journey to the Diamond life they thoroughly enjoy today.
That life today includes a rambling home on a 35acre bush block near the country town of Berrima, NSW, breeding and showing horses and loads of leisure time to enjoy the finer things in life. "Every Wednesday we have an instructor teach dressage for a group of my lady friends and afterwards Paddy serves champagne and sandwiches to us," says Liz with a contented grin.
